Private Label Cotton Swabs: Tip Shapes, Sizes, Packaging and MOQ
Share
Cotton swabs look like a simple product, but a private label swab line involves more decisions than most buyers expect: the tip shape, the stick, the color, the pack count and the container all change how the product works, how it looks on the shelf and what it costs.
This guide walks through each choice, shows which combinations suit which customers, and lists what to send a factory so your first quote is accurate.
1. Start With the Tip Shape
The tip decides what the swab is good at. Many swabs combine two different tips, one at each end, so a single product can do two jobs.
| Tip shape | What it does | Common uses | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round | The standard dome tip, soft and absorbent | Everyday personal care, household cleaning, hotels | Everyday swabs |
| Spiral | Ridged cotton that lifts and holds residue | Makeup removal, baby care, cleaning small gaps | Spiral and round baby swabs |
| Pointed | A tightly wound fine point | Makeup correction, eyeliner, brow and lash work, spot application | Pointed swabs |
| Flat | A flattened head with a clean edge | Sharp lines, lipstick correction, blending | Flat and round swabs |
| Brush or blossom | Multi-groove cotton that spreads product | Blending in salons and makeup kits | Blossom-tip swabs |
| Big ball | An extra-large, soft cotton end | Baby care and gentle everyday use | Big-ball baby swabs |
| Thin head | A slim head for narrow spaces | Detail makeup work, cleaning small devices | Thin double-head swabs |
A useful way to plan a range: one everyday round-tip swab in a high count for value, plus one or two makeup swabs with pointed, flat or spiral tips at a higher price point.
2. Choose the Stick
We make swabs on four stick materials:
- Paper: Plastic-free and cost-effective. Flexible paper sticks are a common choice for baby swabs.
- Bamboo: Rigid, plant-based and popular with eco-positioned brands and hotels. Sticks can also be colored, for example pink, purple, green or blue.
- Wood: Firm and natural-looking. Longer wooden sticks, about 10 cm, suit microblading and lash work.
- Plastic: Flexible and low-cost, but banned for consumer cotton buds in the European Union and the United Kingdom, and restricted in other markets.
For a full comparison, including the rules by country, read Plastic vs Paper vs Bamboo Cotton Swabs.
3. Set the Size and Color
- Length: Standard swabs are about 7.2 to 7.6 cm long. Longer swabs of about 10 cm are used for professional brow and lash work. Custom lengths are available.
- Head size: A standard round head is about 4 mm across. Choose a thin head for detail work or a big ball for baby care.
- Tip color: White is standard. Black tips show exactly what has been lifted, which buyers like for makeup touch-ups. Pink, yellow, green and custom colors are also available, and packs can mix colors.
- Cotton: Tips are 100% cotton. The amount of cotton per tip affects softness, absorbency and cost, so compare it when you compare quotes.
4. Pick the Packaging and Pack Count
Swabs are wound and packed by machine, straight into their retail containers. The container is part of your product, so choose it with your sales channel in mind.
| Packaging | Typical counts | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Round PP box or clear can with lid | 100, 200 or 300 | Supermarkets, pharmacies and beauty shelves |
| Paper box (kraft, printed or slide-out) | 100 to 500 | Plastic-reduced and eco-positioned lines |
| Shaped containers, such as cat-shaped cans or cat-ear boxes | 120 to 300 | Baby care, gift and novelty retail |
| Resealable OPP or zip bag | 50 to 200; household sets of 1,000 (5 bags of 200) | Value packs, salons and studios, refills |
| Blister card | Small counts | Hanging display and travel retail |
| Individual box or single pouch | One or a few swabs | Hotel amenities, travel kits and salon kits |
Common pack counts are 50, 76, 100, 120, 200, 300 and 500 swabs, and custom counts are possible. We print bags and boxes in our own packaging workshop, so artwork proofs are handled in-house.
5. Understand the MOQ
For private label swabs, the minimum order is counted in finished packs:
- White swabs: from 10,000 packs (boxes, jars or bags).
- Colored swabs: from 20,000 packs or more, depending on the color.
- Each printed packaging design needs its own minimum. Three printed designs mean three minimums. Using one container with different labels is one way to keep the total lower.
- Neutral packaging has a lower MOQ if you want to test a market before printing your own packs.
6. Match the Swab to Your Customer
- Supermarkets and drugstores: Round or round-and-spiral tips, paper or bamboo sticks, 200 or 300 in a PP box or paper box.
- Makeup brands and beauty retail: Pointed, flat, spiral or brush tips, black or colored cotton, clear cans that show the swabs.
- Baby care: Spiral, big-ball or ear-pick tips on flexible paper or bamboo sticks, in a container that closes well.
- Lash, brow and PMU studios: Pointed tips on firm wooden sticks, in bags of 100 or larger sets.
- Hotels and travel kits: A few swabs in an individual box or pouch, with your logo on the pack.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the MOQ for private label cotton swabs?
At Little Cotton, white cotton swabs start from 10,000 packs, whether the pack is a box, a jar or a bag. Swabs with colored tips or sticks start from 20,000 packs or more, depending on the color. Each printed packaging design needs its own minimum.
Can one swab have two different tips?
Yes. Many of our swabs have a different tip at each end, such as round and spiral, pointed and spiral, flat and round, or a round tip with an ear-pick tip for baby care. Packs can also mix colors, for example pink and white swabs in one can.
Which stick material should I choose for Europe and the UK?
Plastic-stemmed cotton buds are banned in the European Union and the United Kingdom, so choose paper, bamboo or wood sticks for those markets. Our stick material comparison covers the trade-offs and the rules in other markets.
Do you supply loose bulk swabs?
Swabs are packed by machine straight into their retail containers, so they are normally supplied packed. Loose bulk supply can be discussed for large orders.
Can you make swabs for healthcare or laboratory use?
Our swabs are made for beauty, baby care, personal care and household use. Swabs for healthcare or laboratory use need production and documentation made for that purpose, which our current swab production does not cover.
